Streamside habitat Restoration

At Taan Forest, we’re proud to share how our team - guided by Haida values and supported by the Forest Enhancement Society of BC (FESBC) - has restored 185 hectares of riparian habitat along the Yakoun River. This work helps restore habitat for the Stads K’un northern goshawk, a threated subspecies and the National bird of Haida Gwaii.

Our crews from Old Massett and Skidegate have been busy spacing trees, adding snags and coarse woody debris, and even crafting a bear den from a cedar stump - now actively used by wildlife. These efforts are more than ecological restoration; they're a reflection of a commitment to healing the land and empowering our communities.
