Yukon University Field Tour

On April 30th, our Taan Forest team welcomed visitors from the Yukon Environmental Monitoring Program to Haida Gwaii as part of their final Capstone Project.

We were joined by Yvonne Cable from Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation, along with classmates and instructors from Yukon University. Yvonne is already an experienced monitor and business owner back home, and came to Haida Gwaii to deepen her learning and explore how First Nation-led stewardship is practiced outside of the Yukon.

Our crew met the group at the Golden Spruce Trail, where we walked together, shared knowledge about local plants, and talked about the importance of culturally informed monitoring. From there, we toured some of our operations highlighting how Taan Forest works to balance economic development with environmental and cultural values.

Yvonne shared how meaningful it was to see an Haida-owned company like Taan Forest operating with strong community backing, and how she was inspired by the collective support behind our work.

Haaw’a to Yvonne and the rest of the Yukon group for visiting, listening, and learning with us. Yvonne has further shared her reflections here.
