NOTICE OF UPCOMING PILE BURNING

Notice of Upcoming Pile Burning October 16-30, 2026.

You may see smoke in some areas over the coming weeks as Taan Forest carries out planned pile burning activities.

Pile burning is a routine part of forest management and helps reduce residual woody debris following harvesting operations for fire abatement, and in preparation for replanting. Burns are carefully managed and carried out under appropriate weather and site conditions.

Upcoming pile burning is planned October 16 – 30 in the following operating areas:  Skidegate Lake, East Yakoun, Log Creek, New Years and Miller Creek. It is anticipated that smoke may be visible from Highway 16.  There is no cause for concern if smoke is visible from these operations.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.  Should you have questions, please connect directly with the Taan Forest office at 250-559-2337 or by email at concerns@taanforest.com
