Taan Forest Limited Partnership (Taan) is requesting road building contractors propose an all found rate for road construction by linear meter of road ($/LM) to construct 3134 metres of new road including MIL001-1, MIL001-1A, MIL001-1B, MIL003-1:

  • Sub Grade construction

  • Utilization of non-merchantable timber for puncheon

  • Culvert Installation

  • Bridge Installation

  • Local ballast/ rock gravel development

  • Ballast hauling and spreading

  • Decking merchantable ROW timber at roadside

  • Prime Contractor responsibilities

  • Taan’s Corporate Management System including crew training (CMS Level 1 and Supervisors training CMS Level 2)

  • Familiarization of the BC Ministry of Forest Engineering manual, specifically to sub grade construction, culvert installation, simple crossing installations

Culverts will be supplied by Taan Forest, contractor will be responsible for delivery to site from Juskatla.  

Logs for Wooden Box Culvert (WBC) will come from on site, construction of the WBC is the responsibility of the contractor.

Taan will be responsible for the ROW falling and processing and any rock development outside the block boundaries.  Should an external pit greater than 3.2 km away from block be required a haul rate will be negotiated with the successful contractor to haul rock from the designated quarry.

All wood will remain the property of Taan Forest and will be marketed at their discretion

 

Proposals must include:

  • Cover letter with summary

  • Ability to complete work (list of Equipment and previous experience)

  • Commitment to hire local (people who live on Haida Gwaii) including number of people who will be working on this block.

  • $/Linear Metre for road construction (Row falling, Subgrade, culvert installs, ballasting)

  • BC Forestry Safety Council Safe Company number

  • Worksafe BC number

  • References

 

In no specific order proposals will be rated on:

  • Ownership of contract (Haida Owned and Local Haida Gwaii ownership take precedence)

  • Past experience / performance with Taan Forest

  • Ability to hire local and number of local people employed with this work.  Preference to Haida workers

  • Ability to complete the work with available resources.

  • Linear Metre construction rate – New Road

 

Road Specifics:

  • Total length of proposed new roads = 3134m

  • MIL001-1   = Start 0+000 Stop 1+946 (1946m)

  • MIL001-1A = Start 0+000 Stop 0+746 (746m)

  • MIL001-1B = Start 0+000 Stop 0+282 (282m)

  • MIL003-1 = Start 0+000 Stop 0+160 (160m)

  • All roads must be constructed to Taan standards as per Road Instructions 

 

Term – Anticipated Start Date February 15, 2024

             end date April 30, 2024

 

Deadline for Submission: February 5, 2024 @ 3:00pm.  Parties will be contacted after February 7, 2024 based upon their submissions and advised of next steps
