Taan Forest Limited Partnership (Taan), a subsidiary of Haida Enterprises Corporation (HaiCo) is seeking a highly motivated individual to be part of its forestry team on Haida Gwaii.
Reporting to the General Manager, or designate, safety will be your priority. Working in a team environment you will be responsible for supervision of all contracts pertaining to TFL 60, FLC A87661 and other Taan activities outside Taan tenures. You will work with contractors to ensure Taan CMS, budgetary concerns, and operational plans are being met. You will provide oversight of pre-work and contract implementation by the Contractor, correcting and developing action plans and follow through of plans for safety hazards, unsafe activities/acts and environmental issues involving forest management projects. You will assist in directing forestry/technical methods, operations, tools, machinery, vehicles, materials and workforce if required. You will be based out of the Skidegate Taan office, travel to Taan’s operations throughout Graham, Moresby and Louise Islands on Haida Gwaii, and walk over rough terrain to oversee crew performance, production, safety, equipment, technical details, and resource protection.
- The candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- The candidate must have strong computer skills
- Strong understanding of coastal logging and forestry industry, legislative compliance related to woodlands activities
- Experience working on a forestry crew and other supervisor duties
- Management experience is an asset
- Must be in excellent physical condition; be a strong problem-solver, and prepared for daily travel to jobsites
- Valid Drivers License
Preference in hiring will be given to qualified persons of Haida ancestry.
