July – Taan 3 year Development Plan and Operations in Mushroom Areas

Taan is aware that the Skidegate Lake area contains rich mushroom picking areas. Block engineering and development focused on mushroom picking and prolonged development of this natural resource and food source. Planned entry for block development along the South side of the Lake will only be every five years meaning a large intact area of the landscape will be left indefinitely in a state of mushroom production. In development areas, large buffers and reserves are left between and within blocks to allow for picking opportunity while the regenerating stands reach crown closure to allow for future new growth of mushrooms when adjacent stands are old and decadent at lower production of mushroom development.

Taan has block development in the Skidegate Lake Area in 2014. Mushroom picking opportunities are encouraged, however for the safety of pickers and Taan crews we ask that you not pick within areas where there is tree falling or machines working close by. Any entry into active areas must be cleared with the prime contractor working the area. Please contact the Taan office in Skidegate to determine when operations are active and to receive contact information for the Prime Contractor in the area.

For more information, please contact us at, call (250) 559-2337 or stop the Skidegate office 8:30 to 4:30 M-F at #3 Skidegate Commercial Centre (between Taaw Naay Gas and the Coop) in Skidegate.
